New York Legion @ Queens Vikings Game Recap

Ozone Park Queens NY:

New York Legion opened up the season with a 14-0 win over the Queens Vikings at John Adams High School in Ozone Park Queens NY on 6-25-16.

The New York Legion started the game with some key injuries. Danny Dedvukaj (DB), Keith Ferguson (DB), and James Perineau were unable to play due to injuries. New play maker Omar Rivera (TE), AJ Hongash (LB), and veterans Kindu Green (DE) and Craig Watkins (DL) were also unavailable. To make matters worse, starting QB Mike Gray suffered an injury to his forearm in the 1st quarter requiring 15 stitches. With our QB missing, the team moved star WR Jeff Moore to QB and moved Dominik Eddings to WR.

The NY Legion Defense responded to the adversity and started the scoring with an interception return for a touch down by 3 time All Star, Thomas Roth, #51. Frank DellaCamera finished the scoring with a successful PAT.

Jeff Moore would finish the game with 2 interceptions and 1 touch down pass. On one of the interceptions, the ball was lodged loose and recovered by the NY Legion with a clear path to the end zone but the referees inadvertently blew the whistle and not only denied the touch down score but also the turnover. The NY Legion would score again on a pass from the Jeff Moore to #1 Andre Jameson.

The New York Legion Defense would bend but not break. After getting down to inside the 5 yardline, the New York Legion Defense would turn the Vikings over on downs after a thwarted QB sneak with the tackle by NYL middle Linebacker, #15 Tarcisio DaSilva.

With over 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter, the NY Legion would start a drive at their own 2 yard line and methodically move the ball down the field to the 22 yard line with both running and clutch passing. The drive would last just under 10 minutes culminating in a failed field goal attempt by #2, Frank DellaCamera. The Queens Vikings would take over with 1:08 min to play down by 14 points. The defense would once again rise to the occasion. RDE, #31 Christopher Riddenhour had a fantastic game rushing the passer. The final play of the game would come with a sack of the QB for a big loss. The NY Legion preserved the shutout.

With a bye coming for Independence Day, the NY Legion look to heal up and hope to have all of their players healthy and ready to play for the next outing.

Next up for the the NY Legion is the home opener against the Nassau Golden Eagles (1-0) on July 10, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Anne M. Dorner Middle School in Ossining NY.
